Patients With Migraines Are More Predisposed To To Suffer From Depression

Patients suffering from chronic headache, in particular migraine, are in a greater number prone to suffer from depression disorder, feel tired, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1900 patients who buy seroquel at headache clinics in seven countries. Of the women surveyed, 116 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 343 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the women were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical study found man with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the study found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could agitate or be a manifestation of major Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Major Depression would heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache management and can call forth poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The clinical research was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American people are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 17000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating people care through enlightenment and medical research. A neurologist is a physician specialized on monitoring, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and multiple sclerosis.
